The Air Yeezy, a culmination of a two year project with Nike Design and music artist Kanye West, has finally made its way to New Zealand’s shores. This extensive project and long creative partnership between Nike and West has been born from creative passion, mixed with Nike’s commitment to design and performance innovation.

Tested extensively and fine tuned on stages all around the globe, the goal remained the same for both camps – to create not only a true modern classic, but also an item that will surpass all performance requirements. Taking inspiration from both Nike’s iconic basketball and sportswear styles, Nike Inc’s creative director Mark Smith worked closely with Kanye West to add and subtract details and features of the shoe based on critical feedback from the performer during his world famous hard hitting live stage shows. West is normally known to perform for up to 2-3 hours at a time and true to Nike’s ethos, they had to create footwear that met the ‘athlete’s requirements and movements.

Features and elements such as debossed ankle collar pods for extra support, extra thick inner sock lining, the forefoot support strap, tension lace loops and the remastered ‘87 Air Assault outsole were all specifically picked, reviewed, and modified to ensure that supreme comfort throughout the wear of these shoes was the top priority, for both Kanye and footwear enthusiasts worldwide. Clean seams were also chosen where possible, to prevent irritiation and to improve foot movement whilst wearing these shoes, whether it be on stage, or on the street.

The ZEN GREY model will be available in New Zealand, launching with limited numbers on Thursday 21st May 2009 at a special launch event & party at QUBIC STORE, Newmarket, Auckland.
