So I got linked to this today and needless to say I freaked out. I am a big arcade fan, give me Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, NBA Jam etc etc any day of the week and I am a happy chappy. So i had to blog about this here.
I have been doing my reading around and there is little information on this new video. It would appear to me at this stage that its either a pitch clip to send the movie into full production based on some hype on the net or less likely (I hope) a ridiculously awesome promotion campaign for a new Mortal Kombat video game.
The video seems to be a blend of a Smoking Aces style vibe with the grime and grittiness of a film such as Se7en. This is definitely a pretty brutal clip and maybe not one for the little kiddies but needless to say I am excited to see this come out.
I loved the Mortal Kombat 1 movie as a kid but I can see the appeal of spinning the franchise to have a more realistic style in order to widen its appeal. The JACKSon reference was cool, I like how Reptile and Baraka are psychopathic killers, the Sonya Blade and Scorpion references were a little corny but lets get the views up so this bad boy goes into production. I mean it couldn't be worse then Max Pain right?
A little egg reference, if you pause the clip at 7:12, you will get a frame of Sub Zero. Enjoy
