In September of last year, I was sitting with some mates having Friday drinks at Grand Central on Ponsonby road. My phone rang and it was my flatmate Dan asking whether I wanted to go to Europe with him middle of '09 for a couple of weeks and I said of course, although I was pretty sure I'd never be able to afford it. Turns out, he'd already booked us some tickets, taking advantage of huge oversight on KLM's website.
Apparently some genius had loaded the tax component only onto their website, so fares were only a fraction of their true value. Dan told me we were flying to Amsterdam and back for NZD320.00 and I couldn't believe it.
KLM were quick to respond, cancelling all fares and refunding credit cards, so I figured that was it, dream over. However, Dan was quicker than KLM, he'd actually booked through an overseas website, one that gaurantees all fares posted, no matter what.
We were still all go, infact we were amongst only three hundred tickets that were being honoured worldwide.
So fast forward to this Monday gone, and I'd all but forgotten about the tickets, don't ask me how, but its been a crazy year.
So I'm off on 31JUL to Amsterdam/London via Shanghai for 22days thanks to KLM, although the cruel twist of fate is that Dan can't go now due to work commitments.
I'll send him a postcard....
On a different note, I've just started work with Metro, which is pretty cool, feels like I'm finally doing some grown up shit.
here is a portrait in the latest issue, you might recognize a few faces.
